Understanding EDL Mode and How to Do It

EDL Mode Explanation

In this article, I will explain how to do EDL mode on Qualcomm based android phones. EDL mode is a state where Qualcomm android phones can download firmware. The download in question is flashing the firmware.

In addition, EDL mode also helps resurrect a dead phone, which cannot be flashed using fastboot mode or using recovery.

If the phone is successfully converted into EDL Mode, you can flash it using QFIL or Mi Flash Tool.

How to Enter EDL Mode

There are 4 ways that Qualcomm android phones can enter EDL mode:

1. Using the key combination
2. Through ADB
3. Via Fastboot mode
4. Using Test Points

Using the key combination

1. Make sure the phone is in the off position.
2. Press the volume up and down buttons at the same time and don't let go.
3. Connect the phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. If that doesn't work, try pressing only one button, either volume up or down.

Through ADB

Type the command below in the command prompt window

adb devices

adb reboot edl

If successful, a "cetung" sound will appear and in the device manager it will appear QHSUB_BULK or Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.

Via Fastboot Mode

Type the command below in the Fastboot window:

fastboot oem edl

fastboot reboot-edl

fastboot reboot edl

You can also use a modified Fastboot file from the xda forums to make it easier:

1. Download the Fastboot version 1 or version 2 files.
2. For version one, there is no need to use the reboot bootloader command.
3. As for version 2, just extract and run the Reboot.bat file.

Using DFC Cable

Deep Flash Cable is an ordinary usb cable, which is modified by combining cable lines in it to force the phone to be read by the device manager. You can buy it at the online store or make your own using a USB cable.

How to Make DFC Cable:

1. Prepare the usb cable under normal conditions.
2. Peel the cable but don't get too close to the computer connection, ideally close to the usb connector to the phone.
3. Inside the cable, you will find 4 small wires with different colors, namely red, green, black, and white.
4. On the green and black wires, peel and connect the green and black wires using a switch.
5. If it is closed using insulation and the cable is ready to use.

How to Use DFC Cable:

1. Connect the cable with the phone, but don't connect it to the computer just yet.
2. Change the position of the switch on the dfc cable to ON.
3. Connect the dfc cable to the computer for about 3 seconds, then turn off the switch on the cable.
4. If you hear a chime on your computer, it means your phone is connected in EDL Mode. Check in device manager and look for something like "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader (COMXX).

Using Test Points

To use the test point, it is hoped that you understand the electronic scheme, because this method is quite difficult.

You have to disassemble the phone and perform a short circuit at the point of the motherboard using a super thin wire or needle.

Test Point is a vital point for all electronic modules. To find that point, you need a schematic diagram of the phone that the test point will be on.
